Asian Fuuuuuuuuusion

This was the first evening that we were lucky enough to have Jamie join us for our Ethno-meeting. Her tender stomach makes it unlikely for her to be able to join in our massive family style feeding frenzy, but it is wonderful to have her company for the meal nonetheless.

Our Asian Fusion meal was undertaken at Ginger, at 146 E55th, between 3rd and Lex. I think it is quite safe to say that this is a location that will be permitted a repeat, should we be in a tight spot looking for new foodie digs.

Or meal began, as it should always in the world of asian food, with some good warm salty edamame. One of the only situations in which I will permit salt. I prefer without, but I will allow it. I am, as always, in the minority when it comes to thoughts on salt usage.

As for the rest of the meal...

Jamie had the Lo Mein, which we all took the liberty of sampling, and it was definitely some of the best Lo Mein I have ever had. It was very good. Noodly goodness with veggies and things. Just as Lo Mein is supposed to be. Yummmm.

There was also a Volcano Roll, spicy white tuna inside, crunch and avocado outside. Very excellent. We also partook of the yellowtail sashimi, as an attempt to introduce Chad to the glory of slabs of raw fish. It took some time for Becky and I to successfully explain the differences between sushi, sashimi, and rolls to him, and I think he may have understood at the time, but if you were to quiz him today, he would fail miserably. Oh well. Perhaps we fail as teachers....

Next came a beef teryaki bento box, full with all the supplementary goodies that come along with a bento box. The teryaki beef was very tasty, and satisfied Chad's need for red meat. It must be very draining being the Grand Poobah. Must always replenish your protein and iron.

Ah yes, on a side note. It seems that while I was away (out of the country for 10 days) there were decisions made regarding the names of the posts of the members of the Ethnoculturcist Society. These decisions were made solely by Chad, and without me to give Becky a second voice of dissent, they passed without contention. It is things like this that make me feel the need to write up a set of bylaws. Things like this should not be allowed to pass while key members of the committee are unavailable due to travel and lack of communication devices. And a 7 hour time difference.

But seeing how the names have been given out, and no one has put up any mark of discontent (and there are no bylaws nor venue in which to properly argue points) it seems the titles will stand. They are as follows:

Chad: Grand Poobah
Becky: Minister of Epicurean Justice
Erin: Minister of Propaganda
Jamie: Minister of Digestive Health

Anyway, returning to the discussion concerning our asian fusion deliciousness, I have left the best dish for last. That would be the Honey Walnut glazed shrimp. OMG amazingness piled on a shrimp with some perfectly steamed broccoli. A breaded fried shrimp, bathing in a creamy honey sauce, with large walnuts dancing around the plate. Quite wonderful. And a nice balance along with the beef teryaki and sushi.

All in all, the meal was given a resounding two thumbs up, more if any of us had extra hands, but sadly none of us do. Until next time, Ciao! Or perhaps more appropriate, Chow!!

P.S. Only one more post before I am current and caught up. Unfortunately its now Monday and we are planning a gathering for Wednesday. Which means I have to write it soon. And I'm lazy.

P.P.S. Just a little preview, our next meal was Tibettan. We ate like the Dalai Lama. Or how I like to think the Dalai Lama eats.
